I have to say, Bob is one of the most amazing people I have met. He's extremely professional and responsive. He has gone far and above the call of duty. For example, my husband and I were looking to purchase a house while we were living in another country. Since we weren't able to visit it ourselves and were debating between two, he actually went with the real estate agent and provided a lengthy review of the positives and negatives of each property. In addition, we had a perfect storm of mishaps that threatened our financing. Each time, and there were many, he was able to provide alternatives and fixes. He is truly hands on, and you can tell that he is passionate about his work. I would highly recommend him and his company to anyone looking for a loan.

This was not my first home purchase, but I had never purchased a home in Virginia before and things do work differently here. And times have changed. I did some homework and some shopping around with respect to the services I would need to buy a home. Whereas it had never occurred to me in the past to use a mortgage lender who was not a bank or credit union, I included FIrst Portfolio (found through Angie's List) in my initial list of potential lenders. Ultimately, I selected Bob and his team to help me purchase my home and am very glad that I did.
The interest rate offered by First Portfolio was competitive. As I was able to take advantage of an Angie's List coupon for $750 credit upon closing, the final closing cost ($215) was better than that of other lenders I investigated. Of perhaps equal import - which a new homebuyer may not appreciate beforehand - is how accessible Bob is. Unlike your typical bank, Bob is reachable outside of 9 - 5 (or 8 - 3 or whatever bank business hours are). My needs, questions and concerns were addressed very promptly. If my memory serves, I called him on a Saturday to request a lender letter for a home I was interested in, and had the letter within minutes. Once I had an accepted offer from a seller, things moved very quickly. Bob works with a colleague and loan processor, Kuntri, to do the tons of paperwork. He let me choose a settlement company, although I ended up selecting a company that he recommended. We closed in just under a month.
Note that my realtor, who has many years of experience buying and selling homes in this area, had never worked with First Portfolio before (and was thus wary of my choice), but was very happy with how everything went.
My experience with Bob/First Portfolio was overall a very positive one. I strongly recommend him. The subsequent mortgage loan transfer did not go as smoothly as it should have, but that would not keep me from employing the company's services in the future should I need to relocate.
